A retrospective  exhibition, The Abstraction of the Landscape presents a selection of works spanning more than five decades of artistic production by one of Puerto Rico's masters of abstraction.

This exhibition brings together paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces tracing the evolution of Fontánez's visual language, deeply inspired by the Puerto Rican landscape.

At a time when figurative traditions dominated much of the artistic discourse, Fontánez embraced abstraction, continuously experimenting with materiality and spatial relationships and expanding the possibilities of abstract expression in the Caribbean.

This retrospective affirms Fontánez's contribution to the development of abstraction, positioning him as a significant figure in Puerto Rican modern and contemporary art.
